This is something you will not see very often, a collaboration with a top-notch quality outdoor brand who I have seen grow exponentially in my 15 years working at the Z. Merrell is one of those brands I have a ton of respect for and for all the right reasons. The brand stays true to their roots and they continue to create innovative product that will continuously change the game.

The style I’ve been wanting to work with for years was finally made available to me and the goal was to create some timeless classics with the brand. For this release there are three versions of the Wilderness. Made in Italy and priced at $300, the oily chestnut suede, oily beige suede, and dark brown oily leather will be available for purchase this Friday 10am est. at the David Z. flagship (556 Broadway, Ny, 10012, 212.431.5450) as well as online at Davidz.com

A few weeks ago i posted the original black wilderness boot which is a staple in the boot market for decades. Working with Merrell on my favorite hiking boot of all time just felt right. Here is a preview from the 3-boot Made in Italy collection.

I’ve been waiting a long time to post these boots and in the next few weeks you will find out why. For now lets catch up on the greatest hiking boot ever made. The Wilderness has been around since 1982, thats 28 years and some of those pairs probably lasted till today. This boot is indestructible and here is why, it features a leather Norwegian welt (stitched on soles), a one piece waterproof leather upper, Vibram Roccia Block(R) heavy lug outsoles, a waterproof bellows tongue, and a soft leather padded collar. And if you’re still not convinced, the boots are made in Italy. QUALITY and CRAFTSMANSHIP.

I don’t know if most of you know the significance of a one piece leather boot. To manufacture a one piece leather boot you could only make 2 pairs out of a whole hide of leather, where you’d usually get 6-8 pairs depending on the size of the dyes (think of a cookie cutter, those are the metals used to cut the pieces of leather). And other than the boot looking that much better because there are no panels/seams/stitching, the boot is a lot more likely to stay waterproof throughout its lifetime because there are no seams for water to seep through.

This black leather version is the classic model and is for $275 available at the David Z. flagship location (Broadway between Prince and Spring st) and are also available over the phone (212.274.9044 ext. 640)
