Kaieteur National Park was the first established protected area in Guyana and one of the earliest protected areas to be designated in South America. The original goal of the designation was to ‘preserve the natural scenery, fauna and flora’ of the area. The Potaro River runs through the park falling over the Kaieteur escarpment to form the Kaieteur Falls.

My Shot is National Geographic’s online photo community where people submit their favorite photos to “Your Shot” for possible exposure in National Geographic magazine and online at NationalGeographic.com. The magazine’s website compiles photos from all around the world and creates country by country categories for readers. The River Mountains Loop Trail is Nevada’s first endeavor of its kind. Constructed through a combined effort of many of Nevada’s resource management agencies, private land owners and citizens, this non-motorized trail is approximately 35 miles in length. The trail surrounds the River Mountains connecting Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam, Henderson, Boulder City and the rest of the Las Vegas Valley, expanding recreational and alternative transportation opportunities for the region’s growing population.
