Every day I wake up and get ready for “work” without ever dreading the long days ahead of me. Luckily for me, my job is doing what I love and what I’m most passionate about. I am well aware that everyone can’t be this fortunate and it definitely is a privilege in life. However, People don’t seem to understand how hard myself and others work to get to this point in life. It took 2 years working as a stock boy and 5 years of being a sales person before I got the job of assistant buying. That was the opportunity which opened doors for me. It took 7 years to get to the front of that door. It’s very easy to stay in one place and bitch about how everyone else is lucky. In every type of business there is some type of entry level position which leaves room to grow, but most can’t see the opportunity. They’d rather talk it down and move to the next job. That’s why many of the kids I grew up with are still running on a treadmill, in the same room going nowhere. It’s not about waiting on that perfect opportunity on a silver platter to drop, it’s about really working your power to create more out of than what meets the eye. That’s a true test of character right there. Nothing but the basic opportunities have ever been handed to me. I’ve always had to work hard and fight for everything I ever wanted. All I could do is hope that this motivates some of you to take that 1st step. How many of you are really working hard to get to where you’d like to be?

These posts are motivating, different from what other people are doing. I would read two of these a day, keep going!

Great post. Everyone’s got excuses for not succeeding, when really there is no excuse. Doors open when you’re persistent. You’ve just got to be willing to work for it.

You are correct. Too many whiners out there. Now I have what we like to call a *9 to 5* and I will be honest there are days and times when I really can’t stand it and let’s be honest this job is not what I envision myself doing on a baily basis for the rest of my life but like you state it’s a marathon not a sprint at times. You never know what the days may open along the journey or at what times they shall arise but when they do you will know and you will have to be ready. This *9 to 5* I speak of is not what I want to do the rest of my life but at the same time it does open a door for me & that door is the income that I receive from this *9 to 5* job a majority of it goes to creating by DIPT NYC brand which is what actually wakes me up and keeps me moving forward every day at 5:00 am. As RF stated it takes hard work, I hit it at 5 am every day working on my personal brand, then hit the *other office* from 9 to 5* then back to my brand after that for more work on what I really enjoy. I am not very much a religious person but I do beleive in the fact that if you do good unto others that favor shall be returned 10 fold in some manner or another. That being said another great post RF. Big ups and everyone let’s keep it moving “Onwards & Upwards.

“Nothing has ever been handed to me, I’ve always had to work hard and fight for everything I ever wanted”

Couldn’t agree with you more my dude. Everyday I’m grinding to get where i want to be, and lucky to have been around some of the most motivating people anyone could ask for. I even found myself opening doors to different places to reach my destination. Just learning different things along the way to help me get to where i want to be. I may have had detours and taken a step back sometimes, but if i quit i wouldn’t be working towards anything. It would just be time wasted. Great post my dude!

Mr. Fieg,

I just have to say, I love your Red Wing creations.

You couldn’t be more right with this post. It’s taken me to almost 30 years old, to figure out what I am supposed to be doing. I know some people out there take much longer to figure it out, it can be tough. I’ve found the love and passion for something that motivates me everyday. I was lucky my best friend asked me the simplest question one day, “What do you WANT to do?” When you think about it from that standpoint, you gotta shit or get off the pot! It definitely helps to surround yourself with a great network of motivating people. Im inspired by regular people that work hard to get where they want to be, as that is the majority of us.

I’ve often heard, “Find what you love to do, what you are most passionate about and you will never ‘work’ another day in your life.”

Best,

Hard work usually pays off! We live in what I like to call a microwave society. Meals that normally take hours to prepare can be placed in a microwave and made in less than five minutes. It’s this type of thinking that makes it so easy for people to complain because they think that everything should happen quickly. And this is far from the truth. The reality is those people probably have been preparing, planning, and executing their their come up for years.

Unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, there should never be a job too beneath you. All things in life are learning experiences; entry jobs being no different. Entry level is normally where you get your hands dirty and actually learn about said industry. Entry level positions (except those born into money) have all led us to where we all today. Some of us have progressed while others have sat in the same spot. Opportunities are presented to us daily but those with the eye to recognize them are those who get ahead.

Good stuff!!! Keep em’ coming.

Really feeling the “food for thought” posts. This one hits home a lil harder because at the age that I am right now, and anyone else at 21, is where you have to put these skills into action not just talk because the decisions we make now WILL effect what our future will be as cheesy as it sounds. From being a stock boy to sales to buyer to now designing your own pieces is inspiring to any dude that’s downstairs in that stockroom bringing up shoes doing inventory on those late nights. the pay might not be what you like the hours might be long and the work might be hard but as long as you work hard enough it pays out in the end. you sir are an inspiration so just keep doing your thing.
