Working with Jake was an experience like non other. The dude is a perfectionist and putting both of those in a room with unlimited material and color options will result in something epic. Welcome to Jake’s installment of the Sebago Nexus Project, release info and product shots are coming soon.

This is what Jake had to say about the project:

I love film, style, the city, the woods, music, art… That’s what I grew up on. But more than anything I love telling the story, especially the ones that haven’t been told. Up to this point its been a cinematic one for me. My Test Shots have been a way for me to communicate my love for style and film with some kind of emotional value. I’ve tried my best to make each one more interesting than the next for you guys…

With this new series of Test Shots comes the next stage in their progression. Not only do they feature the natural beauty of model Rachel Ballinger but this is the first time actually seeing product I’ve designed. If you remember Ronnie Fieg put together the Sebago Nexus Project. When he asked me what I was thinking as far as design concept, two ideas immediately came to mind. I wanted to make something that wasn’t available. But more than anything I wanted something that made me feel like I was home when I wore them. I know that sounds kind of odd but as we get older that saying you can never go home again seems to be so relevant. Not literally home but the metaphor of home… Comfort, childhood, the ever changing idea of what that place is and can be… then, now, and in the future.

For most they will be just another pair of shoes. But to me they represent my life. The camouflage of the woods I grew up in. The boat shoe silhouette of a life I aspire to. The luxurious oiled pebble grain leather of my favorite luggage used to travel from the city to the country and back. A chukka that looks better with age as it gets beat up with life’s ups and downs.

After a long brunch with my good friend Brendon Babenzien the idea of using a female model to advertise men’s clothing seemed kind of crazy to me. But like just about everything he does, I truly believe he’s ahead of the curve on this one. These are men’s shoes but I love seeing them on women… The reason we do what we do.

I’d like these films to live beyond the shoes. I would imagine most of you won’t be able to get a pair since they’ve only made 48 pairs of each. There’s nothing that would make me happier than passing somebody on the street wearing them. I always ask my designer friends what that feels like… It’d be nice to know. Regardless, I feel the connection every time you stop by here and press play. Thanks to everyone that made this possible especially Sebago, Ronnie Fieg, Rachel Ballinger, and Mr. Black… It means more than you know… I almost forgot, my Camo Boat Shoe and Luggage Chukka will be available to purchase at the end of the week… More details to come… And I really hope you like them…

As we get closer to the next chapter off of The Sebago Nexus Project I wanted to share some pictures from our trip down to the Dominican Republic. This project means a lot to me, I was able to work with a team of very talented individuals who influence me on an every day basis. A big thanks to Marcus Troy, William Yan, Greg Weinstein, Josh Kissi, and Jake Davis for helping turn my dream into reality.

Last Thursday night i celebrated the release of the Sebago Nexus Project with all of my close friends and co-workers. It truly was an amazing event, it was good to see so many people support this project that the Nexus team worked so hard on to bring to fruition.  Shout to everyone in these pics, sorry but the list would be too long. I’d like to thank the entire Nexus team- Marcus Troy, Josh Kissi, Travis Gumbs, Greg Weinstein of Cultureshoq, William Yan, and Jake Davis. I would also like to give a special thanks to Sean Quincy, Dj Drewlife, and Pj of Don for always supporting and being part of my movement. And lastly the entire Sebago team especially Tom Siano, Natalie Tassell, and Gary Malamet for making this all possible. This one means a lot to me.

I had the pleasure of meeting my homie Marcus Troy’s twin Ahmad last Thursday, one day before the Nexus Project Docksides released. And even though Marcus told me a while back about his identical twin, I couldn’t believe how identical they really are. It took my brain about 10 minutes to register that they are really two different people and after speaking to Ahmad  realized that they were very different indeed. They were both wearing the MT x RF Docksides and SQ took some dope shots.

Marcus Troy will have the first go at my Sebago Nexus Project with two unique Docksides, Sebago’s most iconic style. Both styles are made with high grade materials that Sebago have never used before, “Buffalo” brown leather, “Roughout” Grey suede, red and blue soles and premium leather linings. Priced at $110, 48 pairs per style will release on Davidz.com as well as the David Z. Flagship store at 10am est. on Friday June 25th. I’d like to thank my good friend Marcus for being a part of this project and working with me in creating some of the most amazing boat shoes i have ever seen…. Good ass job homie! Shots by who else.

I gathered the individual bloggers who have influenced me most and brought them with me to the Dominican Republic to work on the Sebago Nexus Project. I worked hand in hand with each blogger as we designed a collection of shoes and boots that will be releasing throughout the Summer and Fall of 2010. We were able to get up close and personal with the factory employees and work with the machinery to hand craft our own designs. It was a truly amazing experience to witness the craftsmanship that goes into manufacturing each and every pair of Sebago shoes, an authentic quality product.

SEBAGO® COLLABORATES WITH RONNIE FIEG TO INTRODUCE “THE NEXUS PROJECT”

Power Bloggers and Ronnie Fieg Work with Sebago to Design a Series of

Custom Docksides, Lighthouse and other Nexus Styles

ROCKFORD, Mich. (June 2010) — Over a span of months and a collaborative spirit, David Z’s Ronnie Fieg along with a select group of power bloggers, teamed with Sebago to design a series of ten custom Sebago shoes to form “The Nexus Project”.  Fieg and some of the most influential bloggers including Marcus Troy, Jake Davis, Greg Weinstein of Culture Shoq, William Yan, and Joshua Kissi of Street Etiquette experienced a complete immersion at Sebago’s Dominican Republic Facility to create this ultimate collaborative Sebago collection.  Designs include individual takes on the Docksides, Lighthouse boot as well as other exclusive Nexus styles.

“Ronnie has a well-known history of putting together great collaborations,” said Gary Malamet, Sebago’s general manager.  “We’ve worked with him many times in the past with success.  When he came to us with this project, we knew we had a chance to develop something completely fresh. In this day of collaborations, and the unstoppable power of blogs, we felt the combination of the two was unprecedented”.

Sebago worked with the bloggers and Fieg and took them to the manufacturing plant in the Dominican Republic, bringing in representatives of some of the world’s best tanneries and various suppliers to pore through leathers, colors, finish details and more to select materials for each custom shoe.  Each participant in turn went through the process of creating their shoe by hand with the team of master craftsmen at Sebago.  Processes included soaking and heating the leathers and finally stitching the shoes together – a seven hour project for each shoe.

Throughout the summer of 2010, a limited run of 48 pairs will be created of each Nexus style.  The shoes will be available exclusively at David Z’s flagship store in New York as well as davidz.com. Bloggers will each bring their own angle and story to their blogs to communicate the Nexus Project. The entire collaboration was filmed by Jake Davis on location in the Dominican Republic. Each blogger will have their own trailer that can be seen on their respective websites. Please make sure to check out each bloggers trailer throughout the release of this project: www.ronniefieg.com, www.marcustroy.com, www.jakedavis.typepad.com, www.williamyan.com, www.streetetiquette.com, www.cultureshoq.com.

This past weekend I got together with two of my talented friends to work on the Marcus Troy Test Shot by Jake Davis. The shots are for the upcoming Nexus Project that was featured in Antenna for this summer’s issue, you could read the article here.  Shot to SQ for these behind the scenes shots.
